After this past semester, I learned to include syphillis in a list of possible diagnoses if the patient complains of the following: 1) Thought disturbances, 2) Loss of position sense in the limbs, 3) Bone pain, 4) Skin nodules, 5) Weird gait, 6) Seizures [i think], 7) Increased visual sensitivity to light…. Dunno how I’d break the news. I’d probably say, “Sir, I think you have syphillis.”
