My television has been off for about two weeks now, and I’m actually considering either downgrading my Direct TV package or putting a hold on my service until school starts in August. There isn’t anything for me to watch nowadays–and I’m saying this even though I have brand new episodes of “The Office” and “House MD” stored on my TiVo. And they will probably stay there until I build enough interest to work through them.

It really does pain me to call that “work” because those are my favorite television shows. I mean, I used to count down the days between airings and ditch some of my evening classes just so I could get back home in time to watch the opening credits (I was obviously jonesing pretty badly). And I celebrated every new episode by treating myself to the greasiest, fattiest, your-heart-is-going-to-explode-any-second-now fast food (i.e., the best stuff on Earth). Considering how I prioritized those shows over everything else, you’d think I was practicing some sort of religion and not just watching T.V.

But that writer’s strike has completely ruined television for me. For the months I was forced to live without scripted T.V., I learned to survive off “Project Runway,” “Top Chef,” “Inside the NBA,” and animes. I became so self-sufficient that I didn’t care at all when the strike ended and new episodes of my beloved sitcoms began airing again. How are Jim and Pam doing on “The Office”? Has Dr. House phased out his old team yet? I still have yet to find out because I am currently preoccupied with “xxxHolic Kei,” “Soul Eater,” “Moyashimon,” “Naruto Shippuden,” and “Samurai Champloo.” And I don’t think that is likely to change anytime soon.

However! Even though I have little use for watching television, that does not mean the T.V. unit itself is also useless. In fact, it has become exponentially more useful ever since I left it off. Because while you just see an old, dusty, television set, I see my new best friend.

But best friends always understand…

Can someone update me on what happened on “The Office” and “House”?

  1. Wow Direct TV- such high quality living oh princess. In school, I had to suffer through basic cable or whatever I could glean over the air with my makeshift antenna.Oh, and the red dress makes you look thin. It’s the blue dress that makes you look like chubsy ubsy.

  2. The Office has to be my favorite show…when i went on vacation i watched nothing but Season 4 of that show. i was addicted!

  3. the centralized broadcastg style of communication / entertainment is definitely being phased out. i only watch boxing or mma on tv. everything else seems so very staged. besides the internet is now giving people their daily dose of drama without the bias and censorship assoicated with centralized media. so what’s next? maybe people will be less zombie-like-drones??

  4. Nothing beats Batlestar Galactica…NOTHING!  But seriously, I got sick of House really fast when you knew at the 0:45 mark of every episode the patient was going to code.

  5. that writers’ strike totally turned me off tv too.  i gave my parents my tv after that happened.  summers are just terrible for tv anyway.  nothing interesting on at all anyway.  have a great weekend!

  6. Oh. My. God. *turn to someone else, cover mouth with hand and whisper* Psst. You know that Xangan Sylvia? She’s cracked! She thinks her TV is her best friend…when it’s not turned on! I know right? How can a TV be someone’s best friend when there are no pictures on the screen?I’m still watching House season 4–it’s the latest here, I don’t know about anywhere else. House is still hiring a new team, but I have a feeling the old team will come back soon. Just a hutch. And btw, Cameron is blonde now, just in case you didn’t know.

  7. hahaha… i’ve been used to life without TV because my mum cut the cable 2 years ago since we were all either out too much to watch it or because i lived elsewhere 8 months of the year.  hence, i have been living off the goodies that the campus provides me with on their networks.the only office i’ve watched is whatever the business lecturer played for us during our HR unit…but, animes are good ANYTIME šŸ˜€ your drawings are awesome

  8. came over on a rec…glad to see that I’m not the only who the writers strike affected. I used to be a tv junkie. Now? I’m down to two shows a week….I loved the last picture. šŸ™‚

  9. I have not watched a tv show with any regularity since 1990 or so, which was when I moved away from my parents’ house.  I still think of Northern Exposure as a new show…though I think it went off the air around 92 or something.  Anyway, I encourage you to downgrade your tv because life is more interesting without it.

  10. Stopped by on a couple of rec’s.  Glad I did!  Love your pictures!  You’re best friend is H-O-T!!  And you look sooo skinny in that red dress!  He was just stunned into silence by your awesomeness in it.House, you are going to have to watch that one for yourself.  I have watched it through the end of the season, and my husband is waiting for the season to get ready to come back on to watch the last two new episodes I DVR’d for him.  Definately not what I was expecting!

  11. I love your illustrations. They’re so cute =] I know what you mean with the writers strike it totally threw me off too. Not really watching anything now except for breakfast television in the morning.

  12. The Office and House MD are two of my favorite shows as well. It was quite a struggle to get through the writers’ strike. Lots of stuff has happened on the shows, and I think it would be best for you to just watch what you missed. T.V. is great when it comes to shows like these, but it’s important not to become addicted to it to the point where it dictates your daily schedule.

  13. Oh wow, you really outdone yourself with the mspaint picts =D. I really like the exercise one and the chefboyardee TV juicer and tenderizer XDXD. I haven’t watched TV in the longest time … not enough time and I like the anime stuff better anyways. In fact I don’t even have a TV at my new place =O ….

  14. I have not had  tv connection for 4 yrs but I did get seasons of House,Monk,Psych,Boston Legal and My Name is Earl…it is still cheaper than TV ,I love House MD!

  15. I netflixed all of the House that I wanted to watch, and then I did the Netflix instant viewing to get caught up on The Office…I was a late bloomer with that one.  That’s the ONE series that I’ll be having to buy.  LOVE IT!  And I have *such* a crush on “Jim”.  Let’s see…the last episode?  I could tell you, but it’s more fun for you if you watch it.  We’ve been thinking of getting DVR or Tivo or whatever.  Just to fast forward through the commercials.  Hate them!

  16. Aww, your pics are really cute this time! What do you make them on? Paint? If you ever want to leave being a lawyer I think you have a career in children’s book illustrations. You just may have to tone them down a bit or else the children will end up hugging their TV’s and flipping the bird at guys in rice rockets on the street.

  17. pam gets back with roy and then jim and pam have an illegitimate child. dr house becomes a gynecologist and delivers their baby.  jk, you really gotta watch it!!

  18. u can download those, cant you?  Episodes of House and the Office….  I rely on HD over-the-air.  I even got several coworkers of mine in L.A. to convert from DTV, and I work for DTV. haha.  =P
