The “Street Fighter” references I made in my recent posts got me reminiscing about a time when I thought that game was the best thing ever. I started playing it when my parents took my sister and me out to dinner at a restaurant that had a “Street Fighter II” arcade system, and after spending $2.00 getting my ass beat, I was totally hooked. I ended up buying an SNES specifically so I could play that game.

And of course, like every other female gamer, my character of choice was Chun Li. Why? Because she was the only one with a vagina. Back then, there was no Cammy or that dyke version of Ryu who had a severe cocaine problem (hence why she was always playing with her nose). So if you wanted a girl fighter, you had to stick with Chun Li or the other feminine character, Vega.

Chun Li was almost like my Capcom-created twin because she was Asian and female…key word: almost. The problem was that her signature moves were horrible–i.e., only better than Balrog’s. The fireball was disgustingly slow, and too hard for me to pull off. I think I only managed to use it twice, and that was because I wore a sock over my hand to help my thumb glide over the controller buttons. And that Whirlwind Kick was useless against the computer; all it had to do was kick me to dispel it. The only way that move could be successful was if you were playing against a pervert who was easily distracted by nonexistent panty shots.

What was left was the button-mashing-friendly Lightning Kick, but even that was a turd pile. I mean, as useful as it was, Chun Li would keep kicking a few seconds after I stopped button-mashing and thus could not defend or evade. And people took advantage of my momentary immobilization by jumping over me and then kicking my ass from behind.

Pfft! You suck, Chun Li!

And yes, she’s speaking Chingrish!

  1. A “Street Fighter” blog from a girl?I don’t care how much you think you know about “Street Fighter”..I would throughly own you at this game.    I guess we’re buds now, I look foward to stalking you..

  2. I can reminisce about trekking (after school) to Penn Station (before they turned ’em into an expensive bowling alley). SF2 and Outrun 2.  Dhalsim and Sagat were “IT”.

  3. I used to play as Guile or Ryu, sometimes Eddie Honda… that was before they brought that atrocious heresey that was the film, and I couldn’t bring myself to play it anymore…What did I replace SF2 with?  Dead or Alive…  Which I enjoyed up until they made a film of this too…  I think someone is watching what I enjoy playing, then making films out of them to make my life miserable haha

  4. hm, ive always wondered why i was drawn to chung-li as a pubescent lad on the verge of puberty.because she was chinese and as such a role-model. right?

  5. A friend of mine is actually REALLY good with Chun-Li, I’m not sure why he picked her, probably cause he was born and raised in Red China and when the game came out he was there.

  6. ha ha…i’m not sure if i have commented before but i have been reading for a few months.  love every blog.  you talk about poop and such as i do to my friends and i love that you aren’t scared to let it out.  anyways, i admit, as a chinese girl, i too chose chun li.  so you excited for SF4???

  7. hahaha. love your drawings. i used to pick chun li for the same reason. i was so excited when i mastered the “upside-down helicopter move”, but my ass would still get whooped by other players. there’s a new street fighter 4 coming out soon! hopefully chun li will have better moves. and cuter outfits.

  8. I liked mortal combat better cause there was that lady that could slap people around with her hair and then when you win they throw your opponent into an endless pit of death and grind their bones up….yuck but oh so fun

  9. umm you are not suppose to do the multi-kick when the guy is out of range *wer-wer* … Multikick is the tail-end of a series of attacks so at least the opponent is on the defensive when you cool-down from the multi-kick.

  10. Ahahaha!  love that Blanka basic move.  I flippin killed tons of Ryus and E.Hondas with that move.  Guile kicks my ass though with his double feet trip move.

  11. DOWN+R+UP+L+Y+B!!!  LOL SFII will always be a classic.  Chun Li was definitley a hottie and the character of choice.  True, her moves weren’t as powerful, but she was, however, able to bounce off walls and body slam you.  I was reminded of this many o’ times by the 10 year old child prodigies who sat there like sharks in the arcade.  Anyway, I love the MS Paint depictions! Simply cute!  Moreover, the fact that you sported a sock for enhanced gameplay makes you all the more awesome in my book.  Long live the classics, my dear.

  12. I’m truly in awe of your art work…nice job!I’ve NEVER ever seen a woman play street fighter at the arcade..let alone an attractive one….If I had saw you playing, I would have had no choice but to propose to you on the spot.
