I think it is kind of funny how some birth control commercials stress the importance of female empowerment, while at the same time focusing on how hard it is for women to remember to take a pill every day. How empowered can this woman actually be if she’s capable of conquering the world, but can’t do something as simple as popping a pill? Does she also forget to brush her teeth? Breathe?
But I guess there are a fair number of women who are forgetful, because companies are coming up with solutions like Femcon Fe, a chewable birth control tablet that “fits your daily routine even if there is nothing routine about your day.” And, of course, right below that sentence is a picture of a very busy woman—and you know she’s busy because she’s wearing a business suit and wind is blowing through her hair. But at least she remembers to take her pills now that they are chewable.
Taking a birth control pill once a day is not as arduous as some commercials make it seem. I’ve been doing it for 10 years, not because I’m a whore (not back then, at least), but because my estrogen levels were messed up and caused me to have insanely long periods. Having a week-long cycle is horrible enough; try doing it for two months. Granted, I felt like a super badass for being able to bleed that much and still be alive, but then I remembered I was wearing huge panties because those were the only kind that could hold my huge pads in place. And then I felt less like a badass and more like butt munch.
The only time I’ve ever “forgotten” to take my daily dose was for revenge purposes:
Ah…good times!
So if taking a pill everyday is really the physically and mentally laborious task those birth control manufacturers say it is, then I should turn in my MENSA application right now because I’m a freaking genius.

You wouldn’t have that problem if you went with option #2 – what what? =P
@npr32486 – Gee golly whillickers! I was first! I can die happy *faints*
I don’t care if the girl takes the pill, but it’s always been an unsaid agreement that if I wear a condom, the girl has to suck me off. I get pretty irritated when a girl is like, “No I don’t do that.” Deserves a solid punch to the rib.
it’s posts like this that reassure me that there are indeed some sane people out there besides me.
hell hath no fury like a pissed off woman. “you might be a daddy mwahahahah” *cowers in fear*
Birth control pills are like saviors to many woman out there who suffered very bad cramps. Its strange that there are people out there who forget to take the pills and then accidentally got the baby.
HAHA. hey empowered woman might have too much on their minds to take a measley er… really important pill.
You could rule the world if you want to. Have you thought about the pill that decreases the # of periods you have overall? (Sorry, don’t mean to be another one of those intrusive doctors, but I will.)
I’ve been taking it for 6 yrs…while I am enjoying the bonus pleasant effects like regulated periods, they do increase the risk of blood clots and strokes or something…it’s been causing me to think about abstaining from the pill-popping and seeking other contraceptive methods..other than that..I dont’ think I’ve missed a pill unless under extreme circumstances..(like if I went to another country and stayed up all night and screwed up my schedule). Totally agree with you about the ads making us look like retards..
Yeah but now that they’re in chewable form you can feed them to your 7 yr olds 🙂
use the nuva ring.
you know my dr. actually gave me a bunch of packs of femme con to try a while back. i did notice that they were “mint flavored” and chewable but never chewed them! they’re pretty gross to chew on. haha.
chewable birth control sounds like a super bad idea. you’re actually lucky. i’m on the ring because birth control pills make me super crazy because of all the hormones. but i’m also anal, and need to know the exact day my period’s gonna come on, so i’m forced to have a plastic vag stretcher inside 3/4 of the time. pretty gross.
@Ironstove – LOL, what?Anyway, haha…revenge purpose…….i have a not so funny story involvin that but i wont get in to that….
i’m saving myself for marriage, so i don’t know what you’re talking about
If I was a girl I would so forget. That is one good way to get back at a guy!
Did you really write a blog about how stupid women are for forgetting something? Its not impossible to forget to do something, don’t be ridiculous. You mean to say you’ve never forgotten to do anything in your life?
what kind of commercials are you looking at? Never really saw a “female empowerment” one unless you find swimming or horseback riding empowering…
you actually can’t feel them when they’re in place because it’s so deep in there, but you’re supposed to squeeze them between your fingers when inserting. last time it slipped out of my fingers too early and snapped open in a very sensitive area. oops. guess i learned my lesson about half assing ring insertage…
well… it’s some way to beat nature.
awesome comic’on the nasty dunk! hahaha
Good God your posts are HILARIOUS!!!!I agree with you. How hard is it to remember to take a pill everyday??? It’s part of my nighttime regimen: wash face, take pill, brush teeth. If you have trouble remembering to take a pill, then you might have OTHER issues going on with you (besides the ever popular “I’m so busy” cliche). Those people on the 4-periods-per-year pill seriously need to get their priorities straight. Or the ones that take it once per year with a really painful needle – that can somehow cause other health risks and possibly prevent you from becoming pregnant ever!P.S. How crazy is it that more women are on the pill for hormone control than for the actual contraceptive part? /raises hand
haha, my my you are a vindictive person aren’t you? ;D
RYC: haha…well the not so funny story is…I had an ex girlfriend that was kinda crazy and I didnt kno it until it was too late. Come to find out, she stopped taking her birth control in hopes she’d get pregnant and i’d be stuck with her forever. Didn’t find this out till after she was pregnant and had lost the child to miscarriage. Then she confessed it. Like I said..not so funny lol….
Haha you’re fine. I’ve come to terms with it and now I can joke about it with my friends. So don’t feel bad at all. I’ve even blogged about that whole situation so Im over it now ^_^
Hahahaah, your comics make me pee my pants. Wrong burger? PREGNANCY! Take that sucka! Hahahaha…please tell me you’ve got all your comics in one place, yeah? And why don’t you make a comic strip? You’re hella funny and look at the Boondocks guy – he did his comic on a forum and then BAM, syndication baby! So from blog to stardom isn’t too far a jump these days!
Birth controls mess up your hormones and you gain water weight so screw that. haha I always love your drawings (:
Wow not taking the pill as revenge so wrong and so brilliant all at once!Note to self: a women who forgets to brush teeth might also forget to take the pill.
hahaha I guess because if you wake up your mouth feels disgusting but you don’t really “feel anything” negative if you forget to take a pill?
haha “revenge” sweet
sat in my classroom and laughed my ass off when i read this blog!!
Two months?! You’re going to have super babies.
Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only girl who ever suffered the two-month period! I started the pill for the same reasons, and I took it for two years. After two years, I forgot ONE dose – and realized that it was the pill that had been causing my severe depression for the last year and a half! Anyway, I haven’t taken any birth control since, so I’m back to crazy periods and acne, but at least I don’t write emo poetry anymore (although some of it was quite good…). Sometimes though, after bleeding so much, I get kind of anemic and have trouble walking or focusing. Fun stuff, lol.I kinda think those “four times a year” pills are unnatural too; I’d be a little worried to ever take them… women have been bleeding once a month since the beginning of time… you really want to mess with that? lol
@eowynnabeeowyn – I agree with you about not wanting to mess with that, oh noes.
The commercial that annoys me the most is the “once-a-month” Pill… where they show the ditzy girls in the old-fashioned-ish swimsuits, diving into the pool sideways one at a time: “Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, every dayyyyyyy….” That one REALLY makes women look stupid…
Haha, Dont fake the funk on the nasty dunk.No idea what it means but sounds bad ass!
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, EVERDAYYYYYYY. Seven ways to fuck it up, those incompetent women!
10 years wow, any side effects?
awww thanks!!@LegendaryPanda84 – Just because someone is on the pill doesn’t automatically mean they’re sexually active. Some people take the pill because it regulates periods and helps with hormones and such which in turn results in better skin, less cramping, etc etc.
@amavel_melle – can i take the pill too?
check out my new post… you will like it, I promise.
In so many of our achievements, we have ascended to the heights of pettiness, conqured the mountains of irrelevancy, crossed the deserts of futility, sailed the seas of ultimate uselessness.
That picture is MAGIC.”Don’t fake the funk…”…gahd I love you.
never taken BCP, but i don’t think it feels empowering at all… but that’s just me.
I’m glad I’m not on the pill because all those side affects are overwhelming.
@Ironstove – What kind of girl “doesn’t do that”?
Unless there is some psychological reason that you can’t remember something that SHOULD be on a routine, I have no clue why someone wouldn’t be able to remember to take the pill. I take it at night, before bed. I also use it for the hormone levels to help regulate flow, I have the excessive bleeding issues. I think more and more people are relying on condoms as a means of actual contraception instead of the pill these days. I use both.
funniest cartoons ever! haha, damn 10 years ago?? you are an OG
This post has me rolling. It’s weird, too cause I just saw a commercial for a birth control thing that can prevent pregnancy for up to 5 years. The woman in that commercial was INCREDIBLY busy.
well said……..I think all birth control pills should be fruit flaored and be shaped like pregnant Pebbles Flintstone or Bam Bam Rubble in a McDonald’s uniform. Then you would not have to forget to take the pill…:: the doc dante
